House of the Dragon TV Series 2022

Instead, Daenerys consents to laying siege to King's Landing using a Dornish army. She instructs Yara Greyjoy to lead her fleet south to retrieve soldiers from Dorne. Meanwhile, Tyrion reveals that he has a way to attack Casterly Rock, the seat of power for House Lannister, using a secret entrance he designed in his youth. Daenerys sends much of her remaining fleet to ferry her Unsullied army in this attack. Sailing from Meereen, she makes landfall on Dragonstone, the ancestral home of House Targaryen. On Dragonstone, Tyrion talks her out of using her dragons to assault King's Landing, as it will result in the deaths of countless civilians, and will prevent her from gaining the loyalty of the people of Westeros.

After Daemon brutally murders his first wife, he weds Laena and together they have two daughters. Laena meets an unfortunate end, however, when trying to give birth to their third child. After learning that delivery will likely kill her, she kills herself by asking her dragon to breathe fire on her. Viserys marries his cousin Aemma (Sian Brooke), who gives birth to Rhaenyra Targaryen.

Daenerys and Aegon

For five years, Aegon III was too young to rule and a group of regents worked to mend the kingdom's divisions. He was joyless after the trauma he'd witnessed and experienced, and became known as Aegon the Unlucky, Aegon the Unhappy, and Aegon the Broken. Rhaenyra and the Blacks' rivals in the Dance of the Dragons were the Greens (so named for Queen Alicent's green gown), who backed Viserys and Alicent's firstborn son, Aegon, as heir. Aegon's claim was simply that he was male and Rhaenyra was not, until the princess and named heir gave birth to three suspected bastards.

Prince Daemon Targaryen

A fact not dwelled on in “Game of Thrones” is that Daenerys’ parents, King Aerys II and Queen Rhaella Targaryen, were brother and sister. By the time “Game of Thrones” rolls around, the Targaryens have fallen from grace (and power). Jaime Lannister kills King Aerys II Targaryen, known as the Mad King, amid the Baratheon family’s efforts to sack King’s Landing and depose the king.

Daemon renamed himself Daemon Blackfyre and gathered forces to oppose the new King Daeron II. Thus, the Targaryen family and the Kingdoms were torn apart by a second and much more protracted civil war. Daeron was popular with some lords because he was everything his father was not — cultured, diplomatic, just — and he finally united Dorne with the rest of Westeros through his marriage to Myriah Martell. It takes a thrilling turn when Daenerys talks back in perfect High Valyrian, swindling the slaver into freeing the Unsullied and turning him into a charred corpse with Drogon’s dragon fire. It was one of her biggest — and most successful — power plays in the series.

House of the Dragon Season 2 will premiere on Sunday, June 16 at 9 p.m. You’ll also have the option of streaming the series with a Max subscription. We shall also meet an endless stream of new character including Alys Rivers (Gayle Rankin), a mysterious healer from Harrenhal, who plays a pivotal role in the book. Millie Alcock and the rest of the first-generation Targaryens and Hightowers will, as far as HBO has indicated, not be returning this season in flashbacks. That doesn’t mean that we won’t see them again someday, but at least Paddy Considine does not have to jeopardize his own health for another stunning performance that the awards circuit decides to ignore. Unlike the final few seasons of Game of Thrones, the showrunners of House of the Dragon still have source material to draw from.

The Conciliator and the well-liked Queen Alysanne were almost always together throughout his prosperous 45-year dynasty. They brought 13 Targaryen children into the world; unfortunately, the happy couple outlived most of them. Though Jaehaerys was one of the Seven Kingdoms' most effective rulers, his long life and legendary fertility ironically created the conditions for civil war. Rhaenyra’s oldest son, Jacaerys (Leo Hart, and then Hary Collett) is supposed to inherit the throne after his mother.

The civil war that will be fought in Season Two of the show, as the Greens and the Blacks take to the skies. They were the dragons of Queens Visenya and Rhaenys—King Aegon I Targaryen’s sister wives—who rode them during the conquest. At the start of Aegon’s takeover, the pair were sent to take and secure the nearest castles. Both were integral in the joining and conquest of the Seven Kingdoms. Many of the show’s strongest moments were in its intense dialogue-driven interactions, and their dynamic was palpable if brief — as well as the romantic tension.

Game of Thrones Houses

Daenerys showed herself to be quite vengeful on several occasions, mainly to individuals who had caused her significant grievances. When Mirri Maz Duur tricked her into allowing the use bloodmagic to "save" Drogo, Daenerys had the witch bound and burnt alive. Upon learning the role that Xaro and Doreah played in the theft of her dragons (and the deaths of her servants), she had them both locked in an empty vault. She had Randyll and Dickon Tarly burned alive for refusing to bend the knee after she defeated them in battle, which may have further soured her reputation in Westeros along with Cersei's anti-Daenerys propaganda. In the last case, however, it is worth noting that she executed them only after offering them the choice of surrender, which they declined. Tyrion also seemed to believe that her execution of the Tarlys was more the result of losing her temper, rather than any deliberate ruthlessness.

When she was 8, Rhaenyra’s father, King Viserys I Targaryen, designated her as his heir. But her claim to the throne is eventually challenged by her younger half-brother, Aegon. Rhaenyra’s second son Lucerys (Harvey Sadler) is also, likely, the son of Harwin Strong.

Jon pleaded with Daenerys to stop this path of destruction but Daenerys believed her actions were necessary to build her ideal world. Unable to dissuade her, an agonized Jon assassinated her to prevent more carnage upon the world. Drogon was anguished to discover his mother’s lifeless body, but he did not blame Jon for her death.

Though most of his enemies were dead, the Vulture King, with an army of thirty thousand, and Harren the Red remained. Many marcher lords marched against the Vulture King and defeated him in battle. Later, Harren the Red got caught and killed by Lord Alyn Stokeworth, the Hand of the King.

Selling their mother's crown took the last of Viserys's joy, leaving only rage. Daenerys remembers how Viserys once feasted the Golden Company, hoping they would take up his cause, but to no avail. Considering himself to be the rightful ruler, Viserys grew bitter and obsessed with the birthright he had been denied. He had never forgiven her for their mother's death in childbirth, and frequently warned her not to "wake the dragon" by angering him.

Once, when Daenerys and Viserys were on their way to Braavos by ship, Daenerys expressed to her brother how fine it would be to be a sailor. Because Viserys had often told her that their line must be "kept pure", Daenerys had grown up always believing that she would marry Viserys once she came of age. The books go into a little more detail about Daenerys's early life in the Free Cities. Initially, Daenerys lived with Ser Willem and Viserys in Braavos, in a house with a big red door.

Ser Willem was old and bedridden and yelled at the servants, but was very kind to Daenerys. After several years, Ser Willem died and the servants drove the Targaryen children from the house, taking what money they had. Daenerys was old enough to remember living in this house and has recurrent dreams about her last sight of the big red door, which came to symbolize the childhood she never had.
